Our Mission and Other General information About the DSA
THE MISSION of the Sonoma County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association is to provide competent and thoughtful labor representation for its members through collective bargaining with the County of Sonoma. Ideal working conditions, competitive benefits, and meaningful community engagement are the key elements by which we measure our success. We will constantly seek to strengthen these pillars, for they are essential to our goal of attracting and retaining the highest quality personnel needed to perform the critical work of deputy sheriffs protecting our community.
THE DEPUTY SHERIFFS' ASSOCIATION is a registered, tax-exempt non-profit IRC 501(c)(5) labor corporation. Our members are the sworn deputies assigned to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division. We work at the direction of the Sheriff of Sonoma County to protect the community. Our deputies perform a variety of law enforcement services for the unincorporated areas of Sonoma County as well as the Town of Windsor and City of Sonoma, both of which have contracts for police services with the County. In addition to core patrol duties, our deputies staff a variety of specialty units. Our Marine Unit patrols the inland and coastal waters of Sonoma County. Our Civil Bureau serves civil paperwork and evictions. Our highly-trained and well-equipped Explosive Ordnance Detail (EOD) Unit responds to calls involving bomb threats and dangerous calls involving hazardous devices. Our Air Unit operates the County's law enforcement rescue helicopter Henry-1. Our Court Security Unit provides security and guards prisoners at the courthouses of Sonoma County and our Transportation Unit is responsible for moving wanted and incarcerated persons accused of committing crimes back and forth to Sonoma County courts from anywhere within the world. All of these functional units a backed by members of other specialized units and our highly- skilled, well-trained detective bureaus.
OUR MEMBERS reflect the makeup of our community. We are dads and moms, brothers and sisters and sons and daughters. In other words, we're ordinary human beings just like those we serve but serve in an extraordinary capacity very few are capable of. The men and women who serve with us were all born with a very deep commitment to protecting others. They have chosen by a higher power to serve the greater good of the humanity and to stand between good an evil. Doing this job not just a choice they made, it was their destiny; their calling. Our deputies welcome the challenge of providing the highest level of service and protection possible because it's what they were born to do.
